Questions

For all my doggy people out there...
How old should a dog be when you do all the testing (for example hips)?
What are some great tricks or games to play with your dog?

For my horsey people...
This is Izzy's full sister - 2011 version.  I've been pondering a buddy for Guinness.  Then I'd move him (and company) here.  I don't really like him hanging around with the big horses all the time.  I'd have to go look at her.  She may not be what I like or want.  But would have potential as a cutter - her grandsire would be Guinness' dad.

Or this lovely filly - not a cutting prospect but fits my color scheme... these breeders have an outstanding reputation of having wonderful dispositions in their horses. She's a 2010 version, so would not put pressure on the bank account over training all at the same time.  This filly is bred to show, not cut, but would make a nice all around.  However, there is Guinness as my all around prospect.

Well?  Am I nuts?  Or do I just need something more to do?  What would you do?

If I were you I'd buy Hola! lol...

I am sorry, I couldnt resist:D

I actually have left Hola in WA for the winter because I dont have a buddy her age here at home. I just really felt it was important to me that she had some foals her age to play and run with... to climb over each other and just do what foals do. This is their childhood... a lot is learned by playing with their peers. I miss getting to see my foal but I know she is happy in a herd of weaners and is learning more from them then she ever could from me (or a couple'a grumpy ol'mares like Marm and P.! :)

about the dogs...testing for hips? I have no idea. Games? Attention games, impulse control, targeting, beginning contacts to teach body awareness and obedience games. Wish I could be more helpful...

Well what's the cost for testing? I'm the kind of person who would do anything for the greater health if I had the funds and enough evidence to prove I needed to investigate.

You could always get Guinness a mule buddy. ;-)

Testing on dogs - 2 years for structure stuff (gotta make sure those growth plates are closed). Since we wait till 2+ for those I don't do the rest till then either and I can tell you spoo has a buttload of testing that needs to be done.

Re: the Painted River Ranch horses. They are definitely show/pleasure type horses, but the temperaments on them are phenomenally fantasic. And they are gorgeous. I saw a 4 year old PRR gelding show, and win, with an 11 yo rider. I know a 3yo filly who was completely started/backed/trained by her amateur owner. They are just that kind, sane, and trainable.

I do like Hola - but blew my cutting horse wad on house stuff. So need to keep to the bargain basement of the horse world. lol

Diva's so busy I want games/activities to exercise her mind. Anything and everything is appreciated.

A good friend has 3 PRR horses - and they are super to live with and work with. Hence the interest.

The hips I believe will cost around $500, maybe more. (OFA) I'd only do Ryder. Good to know to wait a bit, as he's still doing some growing and filling out.

Mule, hmmmm... how would I use a mule... lol Cute little buggers though. (Can't do donkey because of the dogs.)
